Storytime Workshop

Is there a way to free yourself from the tyranny of endless choice that afflicts all documentary directors?

Is there a way to increase the emotional drama of your films and also shoot much less material?

And is there a way to make your proposal stand out from the thousands of others that flood the desks of funders?  Yes there is.

Join two-time Emmy award-winning director Geoffrey Smith for a one-day zoom or in-person workshop and explore the liberating world of story archetypes.

You will learn how to use the wisdom of past storytellers from all cultures and backgrounds, discover what archetypes are, and why they work so well.

Taking a deep dive into your project you will discover which archetype gets to the beating heart of your characters, ideas, and vision. This roadmap for your film will not only save you a lot of time and money, but it will connect with the widest possible audience as it is built on the universal language of emotion. You are happy, your audience is happy, and your funders are happy!

2 available US dates on zoom – Saturday and Sunday April 1st and 2nd. 9:00am PST – 5:00pm PST, and one in-person workshop Austin Texas, 20th March, 9:00am. Ongoing Zoom workshops available throughout April and May – email me for details.

I welcome documentary ideas and projects at every stage of production and from every genre, and from single directors to a team of 3 (director, producer, and editor for example).

Each workshop is limited to 6 projects, and is offered at a special discounted introductory price of $495. This discounted price is per project, not per person, so with 3 people it is only $165 each.
